At 82 years old, one of our clients lovingly cares for her 101-year-old mother, Ruby. She contacted Collier Resource Center because Ruby needed a safer and more supportive walker. Her existing walker was heavy, difficult to manage, and did not provide the support she needed.
Thanks to a generous community donation, Collier Resource Center had a four-wheel walker available and was happy to provide it to Ruby.
Before the walker could be delivered, Ruby's daughter suffered a stroke. While she spent the following weeks recovering, our team continued working to ensure the much-needed walker remained available for their household.
Once Ruby's daughter returned home and began feeling better, the Collier Resource Center team visited their home and delivered the walker to Ruby. This important piece of equipment will help provide greater mobility, stability, and independence for a remarkable 101-year-old woman.
During our visit, Ruby shared memories from her years working on an assembly line at an electric company. She recalled propping open her Bible so she could read while she worked. She would become so focused that she often exceeded her production goals. Ruby shared that the power and strength of God kept her going, and that same strength continues to shine through her today.
Reflecting on the people she has met along her journey, Ruby shared:
“I just love the Lord, and it seems like He just wants to give me such a blessing to keep meeting people like you.”
Her words touched our hearts and reminded us why this work matters. What may seem like a simple walker can provide safety, independence, peace of mind, and meaningful support for an entire household.
We are grateful to the generous donor who made this moment possible, and honored to be part of Ruby's incredible story.
