From Homelessness to Hope

← Clients' Stories
July 25, 2026

In 2025, a senior client was experiencing homelessness and staying in a local shelter. After facing a difficult situation within the shelter, she reached one of the lowest points in her life and experienced a serious mental-health crisis. Overwhelmed and feeling hopeless, she left the shelter on her bicycle, leaving all her belongings behind.

Her sister, deeply concerned for her safety, began contacting organizations throughout the community. With her sister's support, the client connected with the David Lawrence Centers, where she received the mental-health care and assistance she needed.

Through another important community partnership, the client was later connected with CASL and secured stable housing. She has now remained safely housed for more than a year.

The client was referred to Collier Resource Center through the Senior Homeless Women Grant. Our team continues to conduct wellness checks, provide support, and help her remain connected to community resources.

When asked how she feels about her life today compared with where she was a year ago, she shared:

“Grateful. I can't believe it has already been a year. I am housed and continue receiving support from community agencies like Collier Resource Center.”

Her story is a powerful reminder of what can happen when family members and community organizations work together. Through compassion, collaboration, and continued support, a moment of crisis became a new beginning filled with safety, stability, and hope.
